A 13-Year Journey Where Every Financial Decision Stayed Connected

For more than 13 years, Ayan Mukherjee has built a relationship with FinEdge rooted in trust, transparency and a shared understanding of his financial goals.

Throughout this journey, retirement has remained an important long-term priority. But it has never existed on its own. His children’s education, emergency preparedness and financial requirements that came up along the way have all had to coexist with that longer-term goal.

What has distinguished Ayan’s journey is the way he has approached those decisions. Rather than treating each investment, withdrawal or expense separately, he has kept his Investment Manager informed about upcoming requirements and the financial resources available to him, including funds held outside his FinEdge investments.

That has allowed conversations about financial decisions to begin with the complete picture rather than one isolated transaction.

Keeping Retirement at the Centre

Retirement has remained Ayan’s primary long-term goal throughout the journey. His children’s graduation goals and emergency fund have progressed alongside it rather than being treated as disconnected priorities.

He also prefers discussing requirements before they arise. Whether it is an upcoming expense, planned travel or another financial need, Ayan keeps his Investment Manager informed so that these decisions can be considered alongside his existing goals.

When a financial requirement came up in 2026, the withdrawal was similarly considered in the context of his broader plan rather than simply as money that needed to be taken out.

That habit of keeping the larger picture visible has helped maintain continuity even as individual requirements have changed.

Finedge has been instrumental in helping me to build my corpus over the years : started with a nominal amt of 2000 in the year 2014 and now I cannot believe how my corpus is grown . I would like to thank my Advisor Harleen Kaur for periodic reviews, adjustments of portfolio which kept the growth consistent and up to date based on current market performance. Lastly to add I really do not have any experience or idea about the market but I always relax due to the huge trust I have on Finedge that they will keep things running for me With thanks and gratitude.

A Milestone, Not the End of the Plan

After more than 13 years, the planned corpus for Ayan’s retirement goal has reached its intended milestone.

But retirement itself is still ahead.

So Ayan continues adding towards it, while his children’s education and emergency planning remain part of the same financial picture. Reaching the target has not made the plan irrelevant; it has simply changed where he stands within it.

His journey is a reminder that long-term investing is not only about reaching a number. It is also about making the many financial decisions that arise along the way without losing sight of what the money is ultimately meant to achieve.

Where this decision goes next

Retirement, education, an emergency fund and withdrawals were weighed against one another rather than planned apart, which is what goal-based investing sets out.

Keeping a long plan current through periodic reviews and adjustments is the subject of a mutual fund portfolio review.
